It's all rainbows and fireworks
Celebrating pride, learning how to forgive, learning the synth, shift in design, and more
Hi friend!
Happy pride season!
This week, I had the chance to frolic all around New York with my friends for pride celebrations, and it has been such a delight.
My first march in the pride parade was years back in New York City. Friends I made in NYC invited me to walk, and it was such an amazing experience. The cheering, glamour, loveā¦ the parade had it all. Since then, I've marched in pride parades all around the US and even Australia (thanks Brad!), and I've learned that there is something even more than the glitz and glam. The pride parade is a moment to be present with each other and for the world to see.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Stonewall uprising (in 1969, violent riots broke out in New York City in response to homophobic police raids), and to commemorate, New York was also awarded hosting Word Pride this year. A city is selected every 2-3 years for an international pride celebration.
Millions attended events held all around New York City and even more tuned in remotely to watch/listen broadcasted events celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. Some statistics report that this was the largest event held by NYC. Regardless of the size, you could feel the energy of the city beaming with acceptance, love, and happiness.
In reality, there is so much more work needed. It's 2019, and LGBTQ+ people are still persecuted all around the world. Some countries, like Iran and Saudi Arabia, prescribe the death penalty for homosexuality. Let's continue to spread the love and glitter. The world needs it.
Learning the Synth
This interactive website took up a good afternoon. It's fun, interactive, and most importantly, educational. You learn about the components of a synthesizer and sound design.
The Shift in Design
So if you haven't heard yet, Apple's Chief Design Officer had departed to start his own company. Since Steve Jobs had left Apple, the design hasn't been the same. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro laptop and the I've had keyboard issues all throughout my travels. (Yet my 2010 MacBook pro is still alive and well)
Measuring Our Health
Body weight, BMI, fat % has been used as statistics to measure our health, but this article compiles some really interesting ways that we can also measure health. Our walking speed, grip strength, and push-up ability can be markers for cardiovascular and health issues.
As always, thanks for reading!
