Gone fishin'
Away at the burn, homelessness in San Francisco, food shortages, advice from the future, and being humble
Hi friend!
Gone fishin' this week at Burning Man.
You know, life has a magical way of making a full circle. By circumstance, I got the opportunity to go back to this event that I thought I would never have. To be honest, I am a bit apprehensive going back into it because my last Burning Man ended up sending me to the hospital for months.
Back in 2017, I worked hard and played even harder. Burning Man was no exception. It was the climax to a much-need downward heath spiral. What started off as irregular bathroom breaks turned into three months of hell. My body started rejecting itself. Autoimmune disorders of every kind started flaring up, and I went to the hospital so many times I lost count. Most of the time, I couldn't remember because I was under anesthesia. It was one of the scariest moments of my life, and I really thought I was going to die.
Here I am two years after that incident. I left my full-time job, meditated all around the world, launched a podcast, published a newsletter each week, and entering a new phase in my life of entrepreneurship. Everything is new and a bit scary, just like this burn.
Let's see how it goes.
Homelessness in San Francisco
San Francisco Chronicle did a beautiful website covering 24 hours of homelessness in San Francisco. The writing, photos, and videos portray the harrowing homelessness epidemic of the wealthiest city in the United States.
During my time in San Francisco, I've had my share of homeless encounters: physical grabbing, death threats, camping out on my doorstep... it's hard to ignore. I've always hoped that it would improve, but city policies and the homeless stigma seem to get worse with each year. At this point, to label it a crisis might even be an understatement.
Incoming food shortages
A recent report by the UN states that we're on a dangerous trajectory with our food supply. Our land management practices are severely impacting climate change, nutrition of our food, and natural disasters all around the world (wave, droughts, floods).
Advice from the future
I absolutely love this concept. Hey From the Future has advice from its members to people at any specific age. The content is a little bit sparse right now as it just launched, but there is advice to almost every age group right now.
A quote on humbleness
"In the beginner's mind, there are many possibilities, but in the expert's mind, there are few." -Shunryu Suzuki
