I am an 80 year old lady, but that isn't stopping me
Carpal tunnel and the flu, managing superficial cultures, Indistractable, what's in their bag? and a self-care worksheet
Hi friend!
This week was a bit of an off-week. I came down with the flu and also got a bad case of carpal tunnel in my wrist. After almost a week of not having feeling in my left thumb, the sensations are just starting to come back with rest and a reliable wrist splint. It was a good reminder for self-compassion and love. Although I hate it whenever I'm reminded of my mortality... this incites a fire in me to go after the stuff that I am incredibly passionate about.
I published my 3rd podcast episode this weekend entitled "Managing superficiality in Asian and gay cultures." In previous episodes, I talk about this feeling of "not-enoughness" that I have felt all of my life, especially as a double minority individual. Every ad I saw growing up never depicted anyone like me. Well, it compounds especially when we talk about superficial biases. This episode goes into detail on superficial cultures in the Asian household, racism, and body-shaming in advertisements, issues with dating apps, and performance enhancers in the gay community. Lots of insights headed your way.
Identifying our true reasons
I love Shane Snow's newsletters - they are filled with lengthy but fun productivity insights. He cover's a concept in Nir Eyal's new book, Indistractable, called Proximate Cause. It's the theory that we are not aware of the real reason behind why we do things like procrastination, binge-watch TV shows, fall off diets, etc.
What's in your bag?
Recently discovered this weekly newsletter that shares four favorite things from someone's bag. Though I would caution from buying everything you see (because, why not?), I love the briefness and insights within each bag.
A self-care worksheet
The next time you're feeling down, go through this self-care worksheet that was recently circulated on Reddit. I love how it goes through various areas of mindfulness, including nutrition, emotional, and physical well-being.
As always, thanks for reading!
